HIGH-FLOW NASAL OXYGEN THERAPY SYSTEM

High-flow oxygen therapy with
active humidification

Portable high flow system preserves mucociliary function and reduces work of breathing. Active humidification with continuous monitoring for pre and post extubation support.

  Clinical Value

What is Humidoflo?

Humidoflo is a portable high-flow respiratory therapy system that provides non-invasive support with heated and humidified air. Its servo-controlled technology ensures flows from 2 to 60 L/min with precise temperature and humidification to preserve physiological airway function.

CPAP effect

The Humidoflo system generates a CPAP effect that contributes to patient respiratory support. This physiological benefit helps maintain positive airway pressure, facilitating breathing without the need for invasive interfaces or masks that compromise patient comfort.

CO₂ washing

The continuous flow of warm, humidified air provides effective flushing of CO₂ in the anatomical dead space. This physiological benefit improves patient ventilatory efficiency and reduces carbon dioxide accumulation, optimising gas exchange in a non-invasive manner.

Better mucociliary clearance

Active humidification and controlled system temperature improve mucociliary clearance, preserving the natural function of the airways. With temperature ranges of 31-37°C in the chamber and 32-41°C in the airway, optimal conditions for ciliary function and secretion clearance are maintained.

FiO₂ controlled

The system allows oxygen to be incorporated to generate a uniform mixture with controlled and predictable inspired oxygen fraction. Integrated pulse oximetry monitoring provides continuous information on patient saturation, allowing for precise adjustments based on response to therapy.

High humidity

Humidoflo ensures high humidity with proven results in airway clearance: ≥22mg absolute humidity at 31°C, ≥26mg at 34°C and ≥33mg at 37°C. This optimal humidification prevents airway damage from dry gases and maintains the integrity of the respiratory epithelium during treatment.

Versatility in applications

Humidoflo offers validated respiratory support for multiple clinical situations: pre- and post-extubation management, hypoxaemic and hypercapnic respiratory failure, cardiac failure and sleep apnoea. It represents an effective alternative to non-invasive ventilation (NIV) when NIV is not tolerated or is contraindicated.

Controlled flow from 2 to 60 L/min. Measurable respiratory support.

  TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS

Three integrated functions in one portable system

Humidoflo combines servo-controlled flow, SpO₂ monitoring and aerosol therapy compatibility in a single 2.54 kg device designed for ICU and inpatient use.

Integrated pulse oximetry

Active lung for advanced graphical visualisation of the patient's ventilatory status. Lung compliance and airway resistance are displayed graphically and numerically, together with the diaphragm during inspiratory effort. The lung expands and contracts at the same rate as in the patient and this is displayed on the screen.

Extended flow range

Servo-controlled flow generator system from 2 to 60 l/min, heating and humidification. Adult mode: 15-60 L/min with 5 L/min steps. Infant mode: 2-25 L/min with 1 L/min steps. This versatility allows therapy to be adapted from neonatal to adult with millimetric precision.

Aerosol therapy via USB

The Humidoflo unit can be used in conjunction with the nebuliser. Aerogen® solo, an aerosol therapy device using a vibrating mesh system. This USB connection facilitates drug delivery without interrupting programmed flow or altering ventilatory parameters.

  FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is the flow range that Humidoflo handles?

Humidoflo provides servo-controlled flow from 2 to 60 L/min. In adult mode it operates from 15-60 L/min with 5 L/min steps, while in infant mode it operates from 2-25 L/min with 1 L/min steps, allowing precise adjustments according to patient category.

Is it compatible with misting systems?

Yes, Humidoflo can be used in conjunction with the Aerogen® Solo nebuliser via the integrated USB port. This device uses a vibrating notch system for aerosol therapy without interrupting the programmed flow.

What are the dimensions and weight of the equipment?

Humidoflo has dimensions of 350mm (W) x 180mm (D) x 170mm (H) and weighs 2.54 kg without the chamber, making it truly portable for use in different hospital areas.

What clinical applications are validated for Humidoflo?

The device is indicated for: pre- and post-extubation management, hypoxemic and hypercapnic respiratory failure, cardiac failure, sleep apnoea and as an alternative to non-invasive ventilation (NIV) when NIV is not tolerated or is contraindicated.

What accessories does the equipment include?

The kit includes by default: 3 nasal cannulae (available in various sizes from 2.5mm to 7mm), 1 disposable heated circuit with chamber, and 1 pulse oximeter with adult and infant sensors.

What alarm system does it incorporate?

The equipment has technical alarms (electrical problem, abnormal ventilation due to closed or obstructed cannula) and temperature alarms (high at 42°C in the airway and 60°C in the chamber, low at 29°C in the airway and 26°C in the chamber when persisting for 10 minutes).

Can it be used in intubated patients?

Yes, according to the documentation, Humidoflo is intended to provide respiratory support to patients including intubated patients who require a high flow of heated and humidified air in hospital and intensive care environments.
